Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from clients looking for a notary. Looking for notary account help instead? Log in to the notary portal for a walkthrough of notary-specific features.

Yes. Searching for a notary, viewing profiles, creating a client account, messaging a notary, and leaving a rating are all free for clients - there is no charge on the client side, ever.

Use the search on the homepage to filter by state, city, language, or specialty. Only notaries who have been verified by our admin team appear in search results.

You can search and view notary profiles without an account. To message a notary directly or leave a rating, you will need a free client account - register here or log in if you already have one.

Open the notary's profile page and use the message option there. You will need to be logged in to your client account. The notary will reply from their own dashboard, and you can follow the conversation from My Account → Messages.

From the notary's profile page, submit a star rating and optional comment. Every rating is reviewed by our staff before it appears publicly, so there may be a short delay before it shows up.

Every notary must submit their commission document, which our admin team reviews before the listing goes live - a notary only appears in search once that's approved. Notaries who also submit a state-issued ID earn a green "✓ Verified" badge on their profile, shown wherever they appear in search.

Look for the green "✓ Verified" badge on a notary's profile - it means our team has reviewed both their commission document and a state-issued ID. You can also always double-check directly with the notary's commissioning state: most states' Secretary of State offices maintain a free public notary lookup (search "[state name] Secretary of State notary lookup"). A notary's profile shows which state commissioned them.
